All About Your Health

Plans are being made to build Hawaii’s first Alzheimer’s Dementia Center (HADC). Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementia affects millions of Americans annually and this number is growing. There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s Disease and it is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States today. Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementias are progressive – degenerative neurological diseases that decrease the brain’s ability to function.
There are 27 Alzheimer’s Disease Centers on the mainland but no such center exists in Hawaii. The HADC will provide the people of Hawaii and the Pacific Rim access to the best care available today for patients diagnosed with dementia. It will also be the leading source for physicians, researchers, scientists, and other health care professionals to collaborate and conduct life-saving research necessary to find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.

  • Hawaii Alzheimer ’s Disease Center (HADC) will be the nation’s leader in providing medically advanced treatment for patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and conduct the necessary research and clinical trials for finding a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementias (ADRD).
  • ADRD are progressive – degenerative neurological disorders which decrease the brain’s ability to function. The primary symptom is memory loss. Eventually, the disease progresses to the point the patient is unable to care for himself/herself. Dementia is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States today. It is the only one to have increased mortality in the last 10 years and the only one where there is no cure or prevention.
  • We want to build the HADC as soon as possible. In order to do this, we first must secure funding, assemble our multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals, purchase the land, and then begun building.
  • The plan is to have Hawaiia’s first Alzheimer’s Disease Center located on Oahu with satellite offices on the neighbor island. We are currently in the process of looking at land sites.
  • We can do better in Hawaii and our Kapuna deserve it. Now, more than ever, we need support from people just like you so that you may partner with us to help build the HADC.
  • There are numerous ways that you can help today.
